Bathroom Redo

Our upstairs bathroom sold our house to us.  Not because of what it looked like, but because of what it contained.  An antique, cast iron, claw foot tub! I think Craig started thinking in that moment how to convince me to replace it with a standard tub/shower combination.  He is practical, I am…well a little less practical! I instantly began envisioning our “three men in a tub” and fell in love.

Here is the bathroom the way it was when we moved in 5 years ago.

My babies are no longer little boys.  They are getting big! I knew it was time to be a little more practical, like my husband! We were all sharing a small stand up shower on the first floor, so I let Craig remove my tub…and it sat in our sitting room until we sold it on Craig’s list!

The next thing I know, Craig had plumbers in the house for two days getting the job done! I love my cozy Cape style house, but the one thing I struggle with is storage space.  We do not have a linen closet, so I found myself storing bathroom items in random closets upstairs! Craig built shelves between the end of the tub and the wall…and they came out amazing!

I love gray and white.  For the walls we used Martha Stewart’s Bedford Gray and I used her Cement Gray for the vanity.  I love the contrasting grays.

I still need to finish a few things, but here are my favorite accessories so far!

I love how it turned out, and I ask Craig every day why it took us so many years to do this!

Your bathroom turned out beautiful, Lindsay! I just repainted mine as well, along with the vanity… Replaced the shower curtain and tried to decorate in a more modern, updated style. Love it so far but I’m not finished yet!! Any ideas for transitioning an entire house, from old fashioned decor, to a more modern pottery barn-ish style? (Without spending a fortune?) ☺️ I hear you have done this successfully!!

Thanks Beth! It sounds like you are doing great on your redo :). Paint went a long way for me. Also throw pillows! Use lots of patterns. That instantly modernizes your living room. I still adore my antiques, but mix them up with more modern decor! IKEA and hobby lobby have also helped.
